What is water erosion?

Water erosion is the process of wearing away soil, rock, or other materials by the action of flowing water. The force of the water can be strong enough to move large rocks and completely reshape the landscape. It is a natural process, but it can be exacerbated by human activities such as deforestation and overgrazing, which can lead to an increase in runoff and erosion. Areas with steep slopes and heavy rainfall are particularly susceptible to water erosion. It can cause serious damage to buildings, roads, and other infrastructure, as well as damage to agricultural land and habitat destruction. Soil erosion by water is a major factor in soil degradation and desertification. Prevention strategies include the use of vegetation, terracing, and the creation of retention basins.
